Oct 12, 2026
Aunt Millie’s Bakeries is celebrating a milestone 125 years in business, marking more than a century of baking, family leadership, and commitment to the communities it serves.
The company traces its roots to 1901, when it began as Wayne Biscuit Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Among its earl
y products was the Perfection Wafer, which helped establish the company’s reputation for quality baked goods. Over the decades, the business evolved, eventually becoming Perfection Bakeries before the Aunt Millie’s brand was introduced in the 1990s.
Today, Aunt Millie’s remains a family-owned company and is now led by its fourth generation of family leadership. While the business has grown and changed significantly over the past 125 years, the values that have guided the company throughout its history remain at the heart of its operations.
“Reaching 125 years is an incredible milestone for any company, and especially meaningful for a family-owned business,” said J. Bohn Popp, Executive VP of Quality and Brand Strategy. “We’ve seen tremendous changes in the baking industry, in the way people shop and in what consumers want from the products they bring home. Through all of that, Aunt Millie’s has continued to evolve while staying true to the foundation on which the company was built.”
From its beginnings as a local biscuit company, Aunt Millie’s has grown into a regional bakery serving families throughout the Great Lakes region. The company operates multiple bakeries and distribution facilities and employs approximately 1,900 people across six states.
Throughout its history, Aunt Millie’s has continued to adapt to changing consumer preferences while maintaining its focus on quality and innovation. Today, the company’s portfolio includes a broad range of breads, buns, rolls, and other baked goods, including products developed to meet growing demand for healthier options and new flavors and varieties.
Community has also remained an important part of the company’s identity. Aunt Millie’s works with food banks and community organizations throughout its footprint, donating millions of pounds of baked goods each year to help provide food to people in need. The company also supports a variety of charitable organizations and community initiatives.
“While we’re proud to celebrate everything that has brought us to this point, we’re just as excited about what comes next,” said Chris Popp, Executive VP of Operations. “Our employees are the ones who bring this company to life every day, and their dedication is a big part of why Aunt Millie’s has been able to serve generations of families. We look forward to building on that legacy and writing the next chapter together.”
As Aunt Millie’s celebrates its 125th anniversary, the company is looking ahead to the next chapter with the same entrepreneurial spirit that has helped guide it through more than a century of change.
After 125 years, one thing remains constant: Aunt Millie’s is proud to be a family-owned bakery, committed to making quality products and being a good neighbor in the communities it calls home.
