The group kicked off their “Into The Millennium HOMECOMING: Live in Germany” shows on Friday, Sept. 25 and made an unforgettable entrance that is making fans nostalgic. In video shared on their Instagram, dramatic mu sic plays as the five singers — Kevin Richardson, AJ McLean, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough and Brian Littrell — are dressed in black-and-blue ensembles and ascending from the sky on surfboards. “…but were you ready??” they captioned the video. After seeing the video of their surfboard entrances fans freaked out online. “LOSING MY FREAKING MIND I CANNOT HANDLE THIS GET ME TO GERMANY NOOOOOOW!!!!! I am shaking typing this!!!!!!THE SURFBOARDS!!!!! I’m NAUSEOUS!!!! OMGGGG,” one person wrote. “Oh d—, are you serious? 😱😱😱😱 No, I wasn’t prepared for this. That’s so awesome—you guys are just amazing,” another added. “Omg I would have DIED,” “Screaming crying throwing up!” and “I. CANT. BREATHE” are among other strong reactions from fans. Pau Barrena / Redferns Longtime BSB fans recall this epic entrance from their 1999 “Into the Millennium Tour.” Back then, they flew in on futuristic surfboards also while wearing coordinated looks that consisted of royal blue strapped vests, checkered long sleeves and navy pants. As they made their way to the stage, they opened with “Larger Than Life.” “There was a couple of flubs that happened on the ‘Millennium’ tour when we used to fly up to the crowd. Kevin got stuck up there one night,” McLean told TODAY.com in 2025 when first announcing their Sphere residency shows in Las Vegas. The Backstreet Boys are performing a number of shows during their first German residency at Merkur Spiel-Arena Düsseldorf. They previously shared that the location is special as it’s the first country “that ever embraced the Backstreet Boys.” “You saw who we were before the rest of the world even knew we existed. For this, we are forever grateful, and after 30 years, we are finally coming home,” they wrote on social media. These concerts come after their highly successful “Into the Millennium” Sphere residency in Las Vegas that was announced on TODAY in February of 2025. The show is a nod to their 1999 third studio album, “Millennium,” that includes hits “I Want It That Way,” “Larger Than Life” and “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely.” What was meant to be a series of summer shows in 2025 has since continued, with more Sphere shows expected at the end of this year.
