SAN FRANCISCO — Kruk and Kuip plan to call their final game together on Sept. 27, but the road to get there won’t be easy.  A few weeks after Mike Krukow announced that this will be his final season, Duane Kuiper revealed Sunday that he has been diagnosed with throat cancer. Kuiper is get ting treatment and will miss some upcoming games, but he plans to be in the booth next weekend with Krukow for their final series together. “I was recently diagnosed with throat cancer and began treatment last week with my doctors at Stanford Medicine,” Kuiper said in a statement released by the Giants. “This cancer is unrelated to the one I experienced five years ago, and I’m optimistic that it will be successfully treated. I’ll miss the broadcasts tomorrow and Wednesday as I continue treatment, but I’m looking forward to returning Tuesday and this weekend to celebrate my partner, Mike Krukow, and his remarkable career as he calls his final game before retirement. I’m incredibly grateful for the care I’m receiving and for the tremendous support from my family, the Giants organization, my broadcast partners and so many others.” Kuiper, 76, missed this weekend’s series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, with Jon Miller and Dave Flemming filling in. He has long planned to be back next weekend, when he and Krukow, his broadcast partner and closest friend, will call games against the Dodgers for the final time.  It will be the end of a 36-year run for Krukow, who announced last month that he is retiring because his long battle with inclusion body myositis has made it difficult to continue to keep up with the physical demands of the job. Kuiper, who underwent chemotherapy in 2021, has said that he intends to keep calling games beyond this season.
