Commuters are being warned to expect lane closures along Haddon Avenue in Haddon Township starting Monday as construction is set to begin on a $3.5 million pedestrian safety improvement project. Officials said, because of construction efforts, commutors should expect to see lane restructions alo ng the roadway for about six to eight weeks. The work will focus on the area at the intersection of Haddon Avenue and Cuthbert Boulevard in Collingswood and Haddon Township, in Camden County. Lane closures should be expected in this area, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, officials said, as crews will be doing work for this project, including making traffic signal improvements, officials said. “Every resident should be able to walk through their community safely, whether they are walking to work, listing a local business, or enjoying our green spaces,” said Camden County Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works, in a statement. “These improvements will make Haddon Avenue safer and more accessible for pedestrians while also improving the overall safety of this heavily traveled corridor.” The work beginning Monday, officials said, is the initial phase of the Haddon Avenue Pedestrian Safety Project that will see improvements make along Haddon Avenue at its intersections with Collings Avenue, Cuthbert Boulevard, Crystal Lake Avenue and Maple Avenue as well as to several pedestrian facilities. As part of the initial phase, work on Haddon Avenue will take place between Strawbridge Avenue to Bryant Avenue, officials said. As lane closures are expected for approximately six to eight weeks, officials said commuters will find certain turning movements restricted and detoured periodically during construction.
