North Texas trafficking survivors rarely get restitution. Other areas prioritize it

Austin Ryan Lauless was sentenced to 84 years in prison in late 2025 after being convicted of sex trafficking and exploiting children across the U.S., including in Texas.
The case was prosecuted in the Southern District of Indiana. For the survivors of his crimes, that mattered.
The Indianapol
is-based district is one of the few in the nation where prosecutors routinely seek orders of restitution for survivors.
In the case of Lauless, who bounced between Indiana and North Texas, the judge agreed with the prosecutor’s request and ordered him to pay $149,000 split among his child victims.
