(Photo credit to Jeff Motz/KFOR News)LINCOLN–(KFOR Aug. 19)–New information was released Wednesday in the ongoing investigation into “thousands and thousands” fraudulent signatures on petitions being circulated for Lincoln and statewide initiatives. L ancaster County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Ben Houchin told reporters a sixth suspect in the case, 28-year-old Michael Smith, was arrested in St. Louis, Missouri for allegedly being involved in the petition fraud.  In early August, Houchin said investigators arrested five other out-of-state people, when thousands of fraudulent signatures were found on three Lincoln Charter petitions. Since then, LSO has been asked to investigate four more petitions.  They include the Fairness for Girls petition, Brent Lindstrom for Governor petition, the online sports betting petition and the four-fifths vote petition. “It just takes time to go through each one, and as they find it, they contact us and we begin our investigations,” Houchin said. The five people arrested in early August have waived extradition and are in the process of heading back to Lincoln to face charges. ...read more read less
