The following essay was submitted by Alders Tyisha Walker-Myers, Frank Douglass, Angel Hubbard, Evette Hamilton, Adam Marchand, and Richard Furlow about the 92nd State House District race. New Haven is a City on the rise, but we have many challenges to overcome. We face an affordability crisis, and every day the Administration in Washington makes things worse. Now more than ever, we need effective representatives in State government. Pat Dillon is the best choice to represent the 92nd District. She understands what residents need, which is no easy feat. The 92nd covers a variety of distinct areas — from the hills of Upper Westville to the dense urban fabric of the Hill. To comprehend the varied situation of these neighborhoods requires deep listening and strong relationships. Rep. Dillon has done that work and, as a result, has earned the trust of her constituents. Again and again, Rep. Dillon has delivered for her district. From affordable housing to critical infrastructure to health care access, Rep. Dillon masters the details of the issue, finds solutions to thorny problems, and secures resources needed to make progress. She knows how State government works, and her experience empowers her to get the job done. In this respect, Rep. Dillon has a huge advantage over her challengers. While Justin Farmer and Eli Sabin have experience in local government, neither can boast the depth or breadth of her knowledge. As local elected officials ourselves, we understand the importance of experience in governing. We commend their service but find them far less qualified than Rep. Dillon. We are especially familiar with Eli Sabin, who represented Ward 1 then Ward 7 on the Board of Alders. He grew in the role over his three terms, but the growing pains were far from over, for him or his colleagues. In our view, he is not ready to serve as our State Representative. We are honored to serve our constituents, and we take seriously the obligations of elected office. Because of that sense of responsibility, we feel compelled to advocate for the candidate who will best serve residents of the 92 nd District. That person is Rep. Pat Dillon. We urge Democrats to vote for her in the Primary Election that concludes on Tuesday. These individuals serve on the New Haven Board of Alders. Their Wards fall entirely or partially within the 92nd House District. Alder Tyisha Walker-Myers represents Ward 23 (West River). She serves as President of the Board of Alders. Alder Frank Douglass represents Ward 2 (Dwight). Alder Angel Hubbard represents Ward 3 (the Hill). Alder Evette Hamilton represents Ward 24 (Edgewood).
