The Summit County Library Kimball Junction Branch will close Wednesday, Aug. 16, after which it will move to its new location at the PEAK Center, the former Skullcandy building where Summit County is moving many of its government offices and services after purchasing it in 2025. Patrons have un til Aug. 15 to check out books, movies and games from the location, and the library is encouraging people to check out a lot — up to 50 items. After all, every item someone takes is one fewer they have to move, the library said. Book drops will be open through the closure, but the library will also extend due dates into October. The Kamas and Coalville branches will be open in the meantime, too. The move will take from Aug. 16 to Sept. 13. The new library is scheduled to open Sept. 14, but the site will open sooner if it’s ahead of schedule. The library will also hold a grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 3, when library staff are asking for the community’s help with a Book Brigade: Attendees will form a human chain and pass a few specially chosen books hand-to-hand from the old location to the new one. “This symbolic Book Brigade is our way of saying we did this together,” the library said on its website. “It’s a small but meaningful way to celebrate the people (and books!) who have been part of our library’s story and to thank you for joining us as we begin this exciting new chapter.” Holds that arrive at the Kimball Junction Branch and the Kimball Junction locker will be available for pickup through Aug. 15. After that, any remaining holds and newly arrived holds will be moved to the Bookmobile for pickup during Bookmobile service hours, the library said. The Bookmobile will be open from 8 a.m. to noon from Aug. 18-20, 24-7, Aug. 31-Sept. 3 and Sept. 8-10. Patrons can browse the collection or pick up items they put on hold from before the Kimball Junction branch closure. For any new holds, the library recommended choosing the Coalville or Kamas Branch as the pickup location. That way, Patrons won’t have to wait for the new Kimball Junction branch to open to get their items. More information on the move is available on the library’s website at tinyurl.com/ermxz6x7.
