As hundreds of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts gather in the Black Hills for the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Emily’s Hope has joined forces with local nonprofit Action for the Betterment of our Community (ABC) to provide free, anonymous access to naloxone. A public naloxone distribution b ox, supplied by Emily’s Hope, is stocked and available at The Armory, 1041 Junction Avenue in Sturgis, throughout the rally. Each kit includes two doses of naloxone nasal spray, protective gloves, usage instructions, and connections to treatment resources. ABC serves as the local operational partner, managing daily restocking and leading outreach with first responders, law enforcement, and local businesses throughout the event. “Every dose of naloxone we place in someone’s hands is a chance for them to see tomorrow,” says Angela Kennecke, founder of Emily’s Hope. “While I will be out there briefly during the rally, we count on partners like ABC to help us in this lifesaving work every single day. Their willingness to restock that box, to talk to local businesses and first responders, and to carry this mission forward is exactly the kind of community partnership that saves lives. Emily’s death changed everything for our family, and it’s why we will never stop making sure help is available to anyone who needs it, no questions asked.” During the 2025 Sturgis Rally, Emily’s Hope and ABC distributed 460 naloxone kits and were made aware that it saved multiple lives that week. “We are proud to partner with Emily’s Hope to bring naloxone to our community, not only during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, but throughout the year,” said Courtney Ramirez, Prevention Coordinator from Action for the Betterment of our Community. “While the Rally brings thousands of visitors to our area, it also brings an increase in drug use. With illicit fentanyl continuing to impact communities across the country, we feel it’s important to have naloxone readily available to potentially save a life.” Understanding Naloxone How It Saves Lives Naloxone is a safe, FDA-approved medication that rapidly reverses the effects of an opioid emergency, including overdoses caused by prescription painkillers, heroin, or illicit fentanyl. Provided as a simple nasal spray, it requires no medical training to administer and restores normal breathing within 2 to 3 minutes. Naloxone has no effect on someone without opioids in their system, so there is no risk in giving it to a person in medical distress.
