A rare piece of Collin County history is looking for its next chapter. The historic Kirkpatrick estate in North Texas is on the market for the first time after being passed down through generations. Located at 903 Parker Street in McKinney, the property encompasses nearly 20 acres where livest ock still roam within city limits. “We are at 903 Parker Street. This is the historic Kirkpatrick estate,” said Jared Tye of Tye Realty Group, who represents the family selling the property. Tye said the original owner was an arborist who had pecan orchards on the property. “It’s considered one of the most significant historic homes in McKinney,” Tye said. The Queen Anne-style home and barn were built between 1901 and 1902. Both are on the National Register of Historic Places. The home still contains many of its original details. “It has so much original detail work on the inside. It has beautiful pocket wood doors. This house has what you’re looking for when you come to downtown McKinney,” Tye said. The barn, now surrounded by greenery, has become a local landmark and a popular subject for photographers over the decades. “It is just a landmark out here,” Tye said. The property will be divided into two listings. The home and 1.3 acres will be listed for $1 million, while the barn and 18.5 acres will be listed for $6 million. Tye said preserving the historic home is important to the sellers. “It’s very important to the sellers, and I would love to see it myself as a big history buff here, to see the home get preserved,” Tye said. What ultimately happens to the property will be up to its new owners. “The owner grew up here, and the owner would love to see the house preserved, and if there is development on the surrounding property, of course, we would all want it to be appropriate for the district,” Tye said. ...read more read less
