The Pennsylvania Attorney General has charged a Montgomery County man with stealing over $100,000 in life insurance funds that were intended for his disabled former stepson after the victim’s mother died of a stroke.
On Tuesday, Pa. Attorney General Dave Sunday announced the arrest of 38-year-
old Christopher Johnson. Johnson has been charged with financial exploitation of a care-dependent person and related offenses, after, officials claim, he stole more than $100,000 in life insurance payouts that belonged to his 19-year-old disabled former stepson following the death of the victim’s mother.
According to officials, after the death of the victim’s mother, who died of a stroke in 2025, Johnson, of Upper Pottsgrove Township, stole over $100,000 in life insurance payouts that were doled out over a three month period.
The payouts belonged to Johnson’s former stepson who, officials said, has “exhibited lifelong cognitive and neurodevelopmental disabilities and has depended on the support of others for assistance with daily activities.”
“This defendant was once a parental figure for the victim, but instead of protecting a vulnerable young man during an incredibly difficult time, he exploited the victim’s disability for his own financial gain,” Sunday said in a statement. “My office remains committed to holding accountable those who prey on vulnerable individuals and abuse positions of trust for personal profit.”
Johnson was arrested Monday in Upper Pottsgrove Township on the felony warrant and he has been arraigned. Officials said his bail was set at $25,000 unsecured.
He is prohibited from having any contact with the victim.
