New falcon chicks at San Jose City Hall doing well
May 13, 2026
The four newly-hatched falcon chicks that call San Jose City Hall home are healthy, according to biologists.
Biologists from UC Santa Cruz determined all four little birds of prey are male and placed bands on them in order to track them.
In addition to the biologists, volunteers also have eyes
on the chicks to make sure they don’t come down from their city hall nest before it’s time.
The chicks will have enough feathers and wing strength to fly at about six weeks. The parents will continue to feed them and protect them until they learn how to do it on their own. Then they will leave their parents’ nest for good.
NBC Bay Area’s Kris Sanchez has more in the video report above.
