INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — White River State Park is hosting summer outdoor movie nights in partnership with Heartland Film, bringing family-friendly screenings to Celebration Plaza.
This year marks the first time the park has partnered specifically with Heartland Film
for its movie series, though similar events have been held in previous summers. The collaboration allows the park to feature classic films for a broad audience, including families. An LED screen enables earlier start times, giving visitors more time to enjoy park amenities.
John Moton, executive director of White River State Park, said the partnership “gives us this opportunity to tap into these classic movies that people love” and brings together “a big different group of folks, families, everybody.” He added that the series helps showcase the park as a “four-season place.”
The lineup includes Disney’s “The Incredibles,” “Mamma Mia,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and “National Treasure.” Moton said the selections are “a lot of nice top-notch shows” and noted that his personal favorite is “National Treasure,” calling it “such a good movie.”
The films will be shown on an LED screen, allowing for 7:30 p.m. screenings while it is still light outside. Moton said the timing “gives folks a lot more time to see all of our different amenities.” He encouraged families to attend, describing the event as a “beautiful outlet” in a part of the city that has “classically been ignored.”
Concessions will be available on-site, similar to offerings at the park’s IMAX theater. Tickets can be purchased through White River State Park or on the day of the event.
