A boy is recovering after he was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle in Reading, Pennsylvania, on Friday morning, police said. Dashcam video captured by a witness shows the moment when a black Nissan sedan struck 12-year-old Miguel Rivera as he was crossing the road at the intersection of Windsor and Front Streets around 7:15 a.m. on April 24. Rivera was able to move to the sidewalk after being hit, and bystanders, including the witness who captured the video, stopped to help him. Police and medics arrived at the scene and Rivera was taken to the hospital. Officials don’t believe his injuries are life-threatening. Victim speaks out Hours after being struck by the hit-and-run driver, Miguel Rivera spoke with NBC10 about the incident. Rivera said he was on his way to school when he tried to cross the street. He said he did see the car before he crossed, but it appeared that the driver had stopped to let him walk across. “It looked like he stopped for a second and let me pass,” Rivera said. But the driver did hit Rivera, throwing him onto the pavement before they fled the scene. “I threw myself on the sidewalk,” the boy said. The driver has not been identified. According to Rivera, a man was behind the wheel. Rivera said he suffered multiple injuries and bruises in several parts of his body, including his arms, ears and knees. “I feel nervous and I feel traumatized, and I can’t trust myself too much going in the street crossing by myself anymore,” he said.
