Obama spoke wit
h NBC’s Reggie Miller in a sideline interview during the game, where he talked about the new U.S. vs. World format, basketball growing internationally and more.
“Basketball is now a global sport,” Obama started on the international growth of the game. “…now on every continent, basketball is a huge, exciting and embraced sport. And part of it is that anybody can play. You need a hoop and a basket, so in that way it’s a lot like soccer.
“It’s not that expensive to get games organized and everybody’s getting behind it.”
Obama added that star international players like Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic and Victor Wembanyama have added to “the appeal of the game.”

Along with teasing Miller, a former Indiana Pacer, with some memories of Chicago Bulls games, Obama spoke on the Presidential Center that is opening in June in the Windy City, a city he has strong ties to.
“It’s going to have a museum, it will have art, a recording studio, a public library, Michelle’s garden will be duplicated there,” Obama said. “But one thing that it will have is a full-sized basketball court and we intend to have all kinds of activities because sports is an entry way for kids to participate, to build community, to create some joy.”
