INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Santa Clara Police Department and Verizon have completed hundreds of network upgrades ahead of Super Bowl LX to support first responders and emergency communications amid the large crowds expected in the Bay Area.
The improvements are desig
ned to help ensure network stability and capacity for public safety officials during the event. Enhancements include expanded coverage and increased capacity at Levi’s Stadium, as well as upgrades at key fan destinations and transit hubs throughout the region.
The effort is part of a regional initiative known as the “Bay Area build-out,” which includes hundreds of individual network improvements. While aimed at meeting the immediate demands of Super Bowl LX, the upgrades are also intended to strengthen long-term community resilience.
Santa Clara Police Chief Cory Morgan is leading event planning and emergency response efforts for the game. Morgan, a U.S. Army veteran, has more than two decades of law enforcement experience, including work in patrol, tactical operations and investigations.
Patty Roze, Verizon’s vice president of public sector sales, is overseeing the deployment of the communication technology. Roze leads teams that support state and local public safety agencies nationwide during major national events.
As part of the preparation, first responders will have access to priority communication tools and backup systems designed to maintain connectivity during periods of heavy network traffic. Officials say the measures are intended to help emergency crews stay connected even as spectators place increased demands on the network.
