(KRON) -- Amazons is reportedly gearing up to cut thousands of corporate jobs. The layoffs, according to Reuters, are part of the e-commerce giant's broader goal of shedding some 30,000 corporate workers. Amazon already cut around 14,000 corporate jobs last October. According to Reuters, citing peo ple familiar with the matter, this round of layoffs is expected to be in that same ballpark. ‘Stealing isn’t innovation’: Johansson among Hollywood A-listers to sign on to anti-AI campaign Bloomberg, which also reported the news, said the layoff notices could start going out as early as next week. The layoffs are expected mainly to impact workers in Amazon Web Services, retail, Prime Video, and human resources, Reuters said. October's layoffs were tied to the company's push toward adopting AI. However, Reuters cited Amazon CEO Andy Jassy who told analysts that the upcoming layoffs are more about cutting back on bureaucracy and removing layers than AI. While 30,000 jobs represents a relatively small percentage of the company's total workforce, it does amount for a significant chunk of its corporate staff -- about 10% according to Reuters.
