INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — We are tracking a brief return to above-normal temperatures Wednesday with rain-snow chances before another arctic blast slides in with snow potential from a potentially strong system.
Tuesday night: Increasing clouds. Lows in the low to mid
20s around midnight before numbers gradually rise through the predawn hours.
Wednesday: Rain-snow mix chance in the morning hours. Better chance for all snow north of Indianapolis, and for a wintry mix to be south and east of the city.
Highs nearing 40, with 30+ mph wind gusts at times.
Thursday: Colder and breezy with highs in the low 30s.
7-Day Forecast: Temperatures will continue to tank into the final full weekend of January. A renewed blast of arctic air will slide in courtesy of a very strong high pressure system from Canada. We’re also watching how far north a potentially strong and large system gets for snow potential this weekend. At this time, we still think the brunt of the impacts will be south of central Indiana, but we’re not totally eliminating snow chances Saturday into Sunday. The high pressure will work against this powerful system, but models are still having trouble with how much it will do so in relation to suppressing the system away from us.
It’s important to stay tuned to the forecast because there is still time for changes to happen with the system track, the high-pressure evolution, and how far north snow reaches. Regardless if we get snow or not, we’re eyeing more in the way of frigid temperatures. Highs will only be in the teens this weekend with single-digit lows. Subzero wind chills are likely at times.
