Former Navy Seal, professional wresting superstar and ex-Minnesota Governor Jesse “The Body” Ventura hinted that his frustration over the state of the nation has him considering a return to government.
“I’ll give you a quote,” the 74-year-old Minneapolis native told reporters in response t
o ICE activity taking place in his state. “We’re a third-world country now.”
In an interview that aired Thursday on local Fox affiliate KMSP, Ventura said he fought in the south of Vietnam and saw chaos “while the draft dodger was playing golf.” The independent politician was referring to President Trump, who received five draft deferments to avoid serving in that war. According to Ventura, the time he spent in Southeast Asia makes him an expert on banana republics.
“You know how I know we’re a third world country?” he asked Thursday. “Because in third world countries they have the military doing their police work in the cities.”
Tensions between the Trump administration and Minnesota officials reached a fever pitch on Wednesday when an Immigration and Customs Enforcement fatally shot a 37-year-old woman inside her vehicle. Ventura referred to that shooting as “the murder.”
Despite demands from local politicians for ICE to “get the f–k out” of Minneapolis, the Department of Homeland Security continues conducting operations in the North Star State, where as many as 2,000 federal officers are believed to be active.

Ventura served as Minnesota’s governor from 1999 to 2003. The state’s next election is in November.
“You know what? Maybe it’s time for Jesse,” he said. “I only did one term. I’m owed a second.”
