Dry weather sticks around with highs way above normal for December

Tonight, cooler air will linger over the far northeast plains, where fog is expected to hang on through much of the night. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 11pm Saturday night. Areas farther west, including Denver an
d the urban corridor, will gradually see the colder air pushed out late tonight as winds turn more southerly. Temperatures will vary widely, with the coldest conditions staying near the Nebraska border and milder air sticking close to Denver and the foothills.On Sunday, the northeast plains may stay cooler for much of the day, but temperatures should slowly rise into the 40s and low 50s by afternoon. Along the urban corridor and farther west, it will feel noticeably milder, with highs reaching the lower 60s. Any lingering fog in the far northeast should gradually improve as the day goes on, while the rest of the region remains dry. Sunday night through early next week will be quiet and mild across most of the area. Above-normal temperatures are expected, with highs mainly in the upper 50s to low 60s on the plains and 30s to 40s in the mountains and valleys. Dry weather will continue, though light snow showers are possible at times in the northern mountains due to upslope winds. By Wednesday, weather conditions will become more active as strong winds develop across the mountains, foothills, and possibly nearby plains. These downslope winds could be quite strong, especially in the high country, and may lead to elevated to briefly critical fire weather conditions in lower elevations and foothill areas. Even though humidity may not be extremely low, the strength of the winds will be the main concern.
