BATON ROUGE mdash; LSU implemented new security protocols this weekend ahead of one of the largest game days of the season in Tiger Stadium.University officials cautioned fans in advance to anticipate road closures, extended screening times, and a heightened security presence during a campus visit by First Lady Melania Trump. During her visit, Trump announced a $7 million gift to create a permanent scholarship supporting her Fostering the Future initiative."This achievement will give young people from foster care an anchor of stability, a strong educational foundation and a chance to build a wonderful life. Thank you, LSU, for giving the foster care community this advantage," Melania Trump said.In addition to VIP security measures, the university ordered student tailgates closed one hour prior to kickoff following multiple fights reported during LSUrsquo;s matchup against Mississippi State last month. Officials also prohibited unauthorized large-scale gatherings.Traditional tailgating setups mdash; including food, tents, grills and music mdash; remained permitted across campus. Despite the increased regulations and law enforcement visibility, attendees noted the game-day environment remained largely intact."I don't think the atmosphere has changed too much besides you know you'll probably run into more police officers here," a fan said. With additional home games remaining on the schedule, university administrators said the goal continues to be balancing long-standing game-day traditions with fan safety.Permalink| Comments ...read more read less
