SwimZip was founded by Betsy Johnson in 2010 after she was diagnosed with skin cancer at 26 years old. The company manufactures and sells sun-protective swimwear and accessories designed to eliminate the hassle of repeated sunscreen applications. “I wanted to create a product that would keep peop le sun-safe, that was easy to put on, take off, affordable, and stylish,” Johnson said. “Something that I as a person would want to wear, and I would put my kids in.” SwimZip once appeared on Shark Tank, a reality television show in which small business owners pitch ideas to investors.
