Nov 04, 2026
Incumbent Republican Rep. Celeste Maloy appeared poised to win the 3rd Congressional District seat in a rout, but her performance in Summit County was lackluster compared to other parts of the heavily GOP district.
Kent Udell, the Democrat, took Summit County, according to preliminary results. I
n Summit County, Udell garnered 7,097 votes, or 66.1%, while Maloy received 3,284 votes, or 30.6%, as of Wednesday night.
Maloy, though, trounced him throughout most of the rest of the district. In the overall tally, Maloy had 102,643 votes, or 57.8%, with Udell in a distant second with 62,844 votes, or 35.4%. She was also ahead by more than 1,700 votes in Wasatch County.
Summit County is one of the state’s most reliably Democratic locales, but the county accounts for just a small percentage of the voters in a congressional district.
Udell held a slight lead — just seven votes — in Weber County. He was also ahead in Grand County with 2,665 votes, or 59.2%. There, Maloy received 1,573 votes, or about 35%.
The district was redrawn from the congressional election two years ago as a result of a rare midterm redistricting prompted by litigation over district boundaries that state legislators adopted after the 2020 census.
The redrawn map put all of Summit County in the 3rd Congressional District. The county was previously split between the 3rd and the 1st Congressional Districts.
The results are preliminary as of 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
