A shopper who says CVS falsely accused her of stealing makeup is now speaking out about her experience. Kyera Shabazz said she went to a CVS pharmacy in Tampa, Florida, to have posters printed for a murder mystery party. However, the drama played out in the store instead. She was standing at a self-checkout kiosk when a manager approached her and told her to empty out her pockets. Shopper says CVS manager accused her of stealing with no proof. (Photo: TikTok/ @kyerashabazz) She complied but informed him she was filming the exchange on her phone and suggested they review the security footage. The manager refused. She wrote a lengthy caption for a video she recently posted to TikTok, describing how stunned she felt. She explained: “For the next two minutes, he stood there accusing and belittling me in front of customers, making me feel lower than I’ve ever felt.” HM Admits ‘Mistake’ After Fashion Founder Calls Them Out for Using the Name She Spent Nearly a Decade Building Florida Man Calls 911 on His Own Police Backup After Spotting a Black Deputy at His Door As Shabazz walked out, she claims the manager threatened to file a report and said he needed her uncovered tag to identify her. Shabazz said she recently experienced a house fire and had bought lipstick to replace one she had lost. The manager accused her of shoplifting other makeup. She wrote: “I left that store carrying more than a lipstick. I left carrying the humiliation of being accused of something I hadn’t done, the shock of being treated that way, and the utter sadness of finally starting to rebuild, only to be kicked down again.” Despite the accusations, the manager declined to detain her, but the encounter wasn’t over just yet. Her husband later returned to pick up the posters she had ordered, but the manager told him they weren’t at the store, Shabazz said. “This entire situation has been incredibly traumatizing. I went into CVS to rebuild what I lost in an apartment fire, and instead, I was made to feel like a criminal.” Some viewers also took issue with the manager’s behavior, with one commenter calling out what they described as “dog whistles” and passive-aggressive remarks, including his repeated use of the word “blessed” when speaking to Shabazz. Atlanta Black Star reached out to CVS for comment. A CVS spokesperson said the company has apologized to Shabazz for her experience and addressed the situation with the store team. “We want everyone who visits our stores to feel welcome and respected,” the spokesperson said. The company did not disclose whether it still employs the manager. In the comments, Shabazz said she was in touch with a district manager about the situation and would still like to see the footage she believes will prove her innocence. ‘EMPTY YOUR POCKETS!’: CVS Manager’s Shoplifting Accusation Goes Viral, Forcing Company to Respond ...read more read less
