Nicolas Cage’s $10.5 Million Mansion Sits Empty Months After Disaster Strikes
Nov 04, 2026
Actor Nicolas Cage has spent four decades playing men whose lives spin wildly off the rails. It turns out the Oscar winner just lived through a plot twist that sounds like one of his own movies.
The 62-year-old actor casually let slip where he has been laying his head weeks after disaster struck
his $10.5 million mansion.
A sinkhole has disrupted Cage’s living arrangements, but the story behind it began long before most people noticed.

Cage didn’t describe the situation as a crisis. Instead, he brushed it off as a minor inconvenience when Page Six questioned at the L.A. Comic Con on Oct. 31.
He admitted that Halloween with his kids looked a bit different this year. He planned to take his 4-year-old daughter, August, whom he shares with wife Riko Shibata, trick-or-treating.

Cage explained he was not able to hand out candy at the door because, “I’m currently a little bit homeless.”
The actor went on to reveal that he’s been living out of hotels for weeks after a massive sinkhole.
On Sept. 8, the driveway of Cage’s oceanfront Malibu mansion collapsed, opening up a giant hole in front of the house. The collapse triggered a gas leak just before 6 a.m., according to The Associated Press.
SoCalGas shut off service to an 85-foot stretch of the street as a precaution. The city also barred entry to five homes in the private neighborhood, which sits between the Pacific Ocean and the Pacific Coast Highway.
The collapse happened during a coastal flooding advisory tied to the lingering effects of Marie, a former hurricane that churned up dangerous surf along the Southern California coast. Page Six previously reported that the collapse completely destroyed the property’s driveway.
Cage bought the home in 2024, reportedly for $10.5 million. His representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment when the sinkhole first opened, the AP noted. At Comic Con, he did not say when, or if, he expects to move back in.
Once the New York Post shared his comments on X, plenty of people were not quite ready to file his situation under hardship.
“So he’s not homeless, he just doesn’t want to go home,” one person wrote. Another joked, “not homeless.. mansion-less… lol.”
A third pointed to one of the actor’s more famous purchases. “He’s had a nine-foot pyramid tomb in New Orleans since 2010. Not homeless. Pre-housed,” they wrote.
Fans of his filmography could not resist working in a few of his greatest hits.
“Stole the Declaration of Independence, survived the bees, beaten by a hole in the ground,” one person joked, nodding to Cage’s roles in “National Treasure” and “The Wicker Man.”
Cage is far from the first star to have a Southern California home upended by disaster. Talk show legend Ricki Lake was among the celebrities who lost their homes to wildfires in January 2025, a loss she said a psychic had hinted at months earlier.
This is not the first time his personal finances and property have made headlines either. More than a decade ago, the actor paid millions in back taxes to the IRS after a stretch of money trouble. He blamed his former business manager, who in turn pointed the finger at Cage’s spending.
For now, Cage appears to be taking the latest setback in stride. He has a full slate ahead, including David O. Russell’s “Madden,” in which he plays the late NFL coach and broadcaster opposite Christian Bale.
Whether he will be back home in time to greet next year’s trick-or-treaters is another story, and so far Cage isn’t saying.
