A neighborhood in Davie dealt with significant flooding as a result of nearly three days’ worth of torrential downpours, as lingering inclement weather led to flood advisories in parts of Broward and Miami-Dade counties. 7News cameras on Wednesday morning captured flooded streets in Davie’s P aradise Village, located off West State Road 84, near Flamingo Road, as a result of a nearby lake overflowing. Officials were forced to put up caution tape between the sidewalk and the lake, as it was difficult to tell where one ended and the other began. Video taken further in the neighborhood that 7News cameras were unable to reach showed several houses surrounded by water. “This has been here for a couple of days, since it started raining,” said a resident. 7News cameras also captured several cars and pickup trucks slowly navigating the flooded streets. Residents said they have to risk their vehicles to leave, while others said the flooding has taken a toll on their families. “We can’t go out. The kids can’t go to school. The small cars can’t go out. We’re still having problems over here,” said another resident. According to residents and local maintenance crews, the rain and lake water is supposed to drain into a nearby canal that is backed up because of all the flooding caused by copious rainfall that began Monday night. “That’s what happens over here every single year. They need to empty this lake before the rain comes,” the resident said. Paradise Village is also home to a polling site that was forced to relocate to Tree Tops Park on Tuesday morning due to the flooding. 7News cameras also captured homes near Southwest 131st Terrace in Davie surrounded by floodwaters after Wednesday morning’s rainfall. Experts advise motorists to avoid driving through flooded streets, as it can lead to vehicle damage. Broward County Public Schools sent out an alert saying schools were open Wednesday, but tardies and absences would be excused due to the flooding. They also said parents may experience delays picking up their children at school. On Wednesday afternoon, Broward County’s Public Works Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division announced the following conditions and road closures due to flooding: In Pompano Beach, Powerline Road is closed at Copans Road. In Coral Springs, the 7200 block of Wiles Road is closed. In Oakland Park, Northeast 56th Street at Dixie Highway near Northeast High School is significantly flooded but passable. In Coconut Creek, at the intersection of Wiles Road and Lyons Road, both roadways are closed. Davie also gave updates on park closures and solid waste services. Flooding after Wednesday’s torrential downpour also affected parts of Plantation. 7News cameras captured areas of American Heritage School in Plantation, including the football field, completely flooded out. The school turned to virtual classes Tuesday and Wednesday for fourth through 12th grades. Plantation Police said they are monitoring the area. 7News cameras also found flooded roadways and homes in the Plantation Acres neighborhood, as ducks swam in the streets. A flood advisory was in place until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday for a portion of Broward County that encompassed areas along Interstate 75 and I-595, including Davie, Plantation, Sunrise, Cooper City, Pembroke Pines and Miramar. There were three flood advisories in Miami-Dade County issued Wednesday morning that have since expired. The first ran until 10:45 a.m., affecting areas along State Road 836 and the Florida Turnpike, west of Miami International Airport, including Sweetwater, University Park, Tamiami, Fountainbleau, Westchester, Olympia Heights, Florida International University and Westwood Lakes, according to the National Weather Service. The second ran until noon, and it affected areas in Southwest Miami-Dade that lie west of the Florida Turnpike, including Kendall, Richmond West, Country Walk, Zoo Miami, The Hammocks, The Crossings, Richmond Heights, West Kendall, Princeton, Naranja, Kendale Lakes, Leisure City, Sunset, Inlikita, Three Lakes, South Miami Heights and Kendall West, according to the NWS.
