Nicolas Cage said he is “a little bit homeless” thanks to a sinkhole that has consumed a part of his Malibu home. Talking about his Halloween plans at a Los Angeles Comic Con panel over the weekend, Cage said he is “currently a little bit homeless.” “Something happened in my house in Malibu. So, I’m just sort of living in hotels, so I don’t have the normal trick-or-treaters I would like to enjoy tonight,” he said, according to a fan video of the panel. A sinkhole is seen on the street and driveway of a seaside home affected by recent heavy surf on Sea Level Drive in Malibu on Sept. 12, 2026 in Los Angeles, California. The city of Malibu declared a local emergency and issued evacuation orders for 31 homes after a massive and expanding sinkhole opened up in the driveway of Nicolas Cage’s oceanfront residence. A huge sinkhole formed in the driveway of Cage’s home on the Southern California coast in September. At the time, authorities were investigating what caused the sinkhole to open up. City officials said the sinkhole had also caused a gas leak, but no one was hurt. Video of the home shows a massive crater in the driveway that appeared to swallow up everything that was sitting on top. It was not clear from aerial imaging whether the house itself sustained any damage. According to an emergency proclamation from the City of Malibu, the sinkhole started to form on Sept. 7, and fully emerged on Sept. 8, measuring 25-30 feet deep and 30 by 60 feet wide. Seven homes were “red-tagged” due to hazardous conditions brought on by the sinkhole, the proclamation said, as were an additional 24 homes “due to the loss of safe vehicular access.” Gas services in the area were shut off. The next day, the city said the housing association that controls the area would be working on repairs. It said repairs were expected to be completed within five weeks “depending on conditions.” Representatives for Cage did not immediately respond to an NBC News request for comment. It was not clear how long he has been out of the home and when he will be able to return. The City of Malibu has not released any further information about the sinkhole, and did not immediately respond to a request for more information. ...read more read less
