After a cold and wet weekend, the peaks of the Wasatch Back are solidly covered with snow. Lower elevations didn’t see much natural snow, but the temperatures did clear the way for snowmaking to begin at resorts. Late Monday night, crews at Park City Mountain started up the snow guns, which ra n until early Tuesday morning. The manmade snow will build a foundation for fresh snow. The resort plans to open Nov. 20, conditions permitting. Resort officials said snowmakers are targeting their “opening package” terrain areas during early snowmaking windows. Crews started snowmaking at the runs off of the Saddleback Express and High Meadows Express lifts, as well as the beginner-friendly Homerun on the Mountain Village side of the resort. Snowmaking crews will watch forecasts and continue these efforts as they prepare for opening day, resort officials said. “With fresh snow on the peaks and snowmaking underway, excitement is building as Park City Mountain gets ready to welcome skiers and riders back to the slopes,” said Bailey Quinn, communications manager.
