It is the largest transportation grant in its history. The project, which is expected to cost approximatel
y $53.7 million, will help “support final design, right-of-way acquisition, and construction of a new overpass intended to improve safety and traffic flow at a busy railroad crossing in Nampa,” according to a news release. It will also create a “grade-separated” crossing, which will allow vehicles to go over the railroad tracks without passing trains or being delayed. The city said that by doing that, it will “improve safety, reduce congestion and provide more reliable travel for residents and commercial vehicles.”“This is great news for Nampa,” Nampa Mayor Darl Bruner said in a news release. “The federal grant of up to $42.98 million for the Robinson Road and Greenhurst Road rail crossing project will help us eliminate a dangerous crossing that is often blocked by trains and make travel safer and smoother for everyone. The city continues to work hard to find additional funding to support important projects like this one.”The news release said the City of Nampa and Nampa Highway District No. 1 will provide a 20% non-federal funding match.Construction is expected to start in 2030 and could take up to three years to complete.
