HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Just hours before Election Day, Republican Rep. Rob Wittman (VA-1) appeared for one of his last campaign events before the polls open. Wittman, who has held his seat in Congress for 19 years, will face off against Democratic Henrico Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Tayl or (D) on Tuesday, Nov. 3. During his campaign event on Monday, Nov. 2, he was joined Monday by U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and former Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin (R). “This election is not just about turnout, but it’s about the future of this nation," Wittman said. Wittman claimed that Taylor has been silent on issues he deems important. “My opponent doesn’t say a word about how she’s going to bring down energy costs, bring down housing costs, health care costs, what she’s going to do to help build this nation’s military," Wittman said. "All you hear are a procession of baseless lies," Wittman said. Wittman said. "Or are we going to put that power and the future in the hands of a bigger and bigger government that takes more of your resources and provides you less liberty and freedom?" He went on to say will help protect the country from outside threats. “We’re doing everything we can so that every morning, Xi Jinping wakes up and goes no, not today," he said. The rally concluded with Johnson urging people to make an appearance at the polls. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday. 8News is Your Local Election Headquarters.
