The term runs Dec. 17 through Jan. 13, with a one-week break for the winter holidays. Courses will be delivered entirely online, allowing students across Louisiana to complete coursework without traveling to campus. The program is designed for students seeking to make up credits, fulfill degree requirements or get ahead in their academic programs. Many of the courses satisfy general education requirements and may transfer to four-year universities through existing agreements with Louisiana institutions, according to the college. “Winter Intersession is a chance for college students to catch up quickly if a class didn’t work out in the fall, or get ahead for the spring semester,” said Dr. April Lavergne, dean of strategic enrollment management and student success at Nunez. “Thanks to our transfer agreements with Louisiana four-year institutions, most college students will find at least one class on the list that will count toward their major. When you factor in the affordability of Nunez’s courses and the convenience of taking a course online, Winter Intersession can be a valuable resource to college students across Louisiana.” The 17-course lineup includes classes in business, economics, mathematics, science, healthcare, history and social sciences. Business-related offerings include Introduction to Business and Microeconomics, while other courses include College Algebra, Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Sociology and American History from 1865. Science and healthcare courses include Principles of Biology I, General Biology II, Human Anatomy and Physiology I, Nutrition and Diet Therapy, Medical Terminology I and II, and Physical Geology. Additional offerings include Animal Behavior, Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology, Human Anatomy and Physiology I Lab, and Physical Science. Students attending other colleges and universities can enroll in the winter term, although Nunez encourages those not currently registered at the institution to apply as soon as possible. The college’s Student Success Center provides academic advising to help students determine how individual courses may transfer to Louisiana universities. Students can meet with a success coach at the center, located in the AST Building on the Chalmette campus. Walk-in visitors receive priority for in-person assistance. Nunez Community College, located at 3710 Paris Road, offers associate degrees, certificates and workforce training programs. The institution is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Students can apply for the Winter Intersession through nunez.edu.
