Now that Halloween is all said and done, Mimi is here to reclaim her seasonal throne. As is yearly tradition, singer Mariah Carey posted a video as the clock struck 12 a.m. on Nov. 1, officially signaling the start of the holiday season that’s long been defined by her 1994 megahit, “All I Wan t For Christmas Is You.” And as the video shows, the Queen of Christmas is ready to reign supreme. The video starts out, just minutes to midnight, with Carey performing at a New York City club on Halloween night. The songstress, in a punk ensemble, rocks out to “Hermit,” an alt-rock song that she secretly wrote in the 1990s under the name Chick. It wasn’t until years later that she revealed her involvement on the punk project to the world. Carey, at one point, even jumps into the screaming mosh pit to crowd surf. But the punk vibes melt away as soon as the clock strikes midnight. She famously sings her iconic “it’s time” line in her whistle register. Carey has every right to declare the start of the winter holiday season. After all, her song “All I Want for Christmas” has spent 22 total weeks at the top of the Hot 100. Each year, the pop princess releases a video in which she “defrosts” to announce the start of the holiday season. And the clips have become stuff of legend. In previous years, she’s featured appearances from comedian Billy Eichner and her twins Moroccan and Monroe Cannon. This story first appeared on TODAY.com.
