NYPD seeks witnesses after Katie Suarez is stabbed on Brooklyn running trail
Nov 01, 2026
A 28-year-old woman continued remained gravely injured Sunday evening after police say she was stabbed in the neck while running along Shore Parkway in Brooklyn. The attacker remains on the loose and has not been identified.
Police identified the victim as Katie Suarez. The New York City Poli
ce Dept. released a photo of her, as it urges anyone who saw unusual activity near the running and bike path or the nearby Belt Parkway to help investigators.
Police said stabbing victim Katie Suarez remained in grave condition Sunday night. Police shared a photo of her in hopes of gaining clues in the search for her attacker.
The attack happened a little before 8 p.m. in Bath Beach, near Bay 8th and 17th streets.
“As of right now her condition, she is in grave condition,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny told NBC New York and Telemundo 47 in an exclusive interview at the scene of Friday night’s attack. “Hoping for the best… but she’s still in very critical condition,” Kenny added.
Dozens of NYPD officers have been deployed across a stretch of the path, which became an extended crime scene. Detectives also released a photo of Suarez to the public for the first time.

Collecting video around the crime scene has been challenging. On Sunday, police searched by air, land and sea, with divers searching the waters, as a K-9 unit looked for evidence on the ground.
Kenny appealed to drivers who were on the Belt Parkway on Friday night, noting that traffic slows near the site of the attack.
“Anybody that was on the Belt Parkway Friday night,” he said, pointing to area where traffic slows down, “it works for us.”

Investigators want to hear from anyone who noticed something out of the ordinary less than 40 feet off the Belt Parkway, either Friday night or in recent weeks.
