Park City area forms Winter Olympic organizing committee
Oct 30, 2026
Representatives from local government, the ski industry, the tourism industry and other segments of the community last summer coalesced into a committee to begin planning for the area’s role in the 2034 Winter Olympics.
The Local Organizing Committee first met in June and has met twice since t
hen. Working groups of the committee have also held meetings. The committee is preparing a Regional Strategic Plan.
The seating of the Local Organizing Committee last summer was not widely publicized at the time. It was an important step, however, as Park City and surrounding Summit County begin the early discussions about the Games.
The area will be key to 2034, with Park City Mountain, Deer Valley Resort and the Utah Olympic Park identified as competition venues. The area is also expected to be crucial as plans are crafted for transportation, security and the celebration.
According to the municipal government, the roster of the Local Organizing Committee:
Park City Mayor Ryan Dickey, a co-chair
Canice Harte, Summit County Council chair, a co-chair
Tonja Hanson, Summit County Council
Jodi Emery, deputy Park City manager
Adam Lenhard, Park City manager
Tana Toly, Park City councilor
Calum Clark, Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation
Shayne Scott, Summit County manager
Todd Bennett, Deer Valley Resort
Deirdra Walsh, Park City Mountain
Jennifer Wesselhoff, Park City Chamber/Bureau
Ginger Wicks, Historic Park City Alliance, Park City Area Restaurant Association and Park City Area Lodging Association
Jamie Kimball, Utah Olympic Park
Willie Ford, National Ability Center
The leaders, taken as a group, cover a wide swath of the community’s governance and tourism-driven economy.
The Regional Strategic Plan remains in draft form and has not been released. Emery anticipates presenting elements of the draft plan during a Park City Council meeting scheduled on Thursday.
“This is the first public appearance of the elements of the framework, and we expect the County Council to also engage with it soon. Both councils may provide feedback or use the framework to develop specific tangible, measurable outcomes for their respective organizations. This document is designed as a living document that will evolve continually through 2034 as state plans crystallize, funding develops and public input shapes our path forward,” Emery said.
Emery said a representative of Utah 2034, the Games organizing committee, has been in attendance and serves as a liaison between the two groups.
Emery also drafted a report in anticipation of the upcoming City Council meeting, indicating the “collaborative roadmap focuses on the functional areas that require multi-jurisdictional alignment, including transit and transportation corridors, regional public safety, workforce housing, venue approach, and long-range legacy investments.”
“The primary purpose of today’s briefing is to capture Park City Council’s vision, concerns, and strategic priorities early. Gathering this direction now ensures that City staff and committee liaisons can actively advocate for and embed Park City’s values into the regional plan as it is refined,” the report said.
The seating of the Local Organizing Committee is one of the larger steps taken in the Park City area since the Games were awarded to Salt Lake City in the summer of 2024.
Utah 2034 provided statement addressing the Local Organizing Committee: “We maintain regular communication with all of our host venue communities. And we are supportive of local structure developed by our various host communities. It’s especially important in Park City and Summit County, as there are multiple venues in both the city and county. So having a local group working together will be important.”
