(Jeff Motz/KFOR News)LINCOLN–(KFOR Oct. 29)–The ribbon was cut on Wednesday afternoon by board members of the Lincoln Sports Foundation and other comm unity leaders on LSF’s new volleyball facility, featuring four new courts in a 20,000 square foot indoor space, near 70th and Arbor Road. The new courts come after the completion of six hardwood basketball courts in Dec. 2025, building on the foundation’s larger effort to beef up the sports facilities it offers to the community. The courts were funded through a number of private donations, as well as grants from Lancaster County.  It also comes six months after it was announced that the Speedway Sports Complex in southwest Lincoln announced earlier this summer it would transition six of its basketball courts to pickleball courts. Lincoln Sports Foundation president Dan Lesoing said the goal is to provide opportunities to young athletes around Lincoln by giving them a place where their teams and organizations can play. “To us, it’s all about the community,” Lesoing said.  “So what can we do for the city of Lincoln? What can we do for Lancaster County?  That’s going to trickle down to the state level and then all of a sudden, we’re going to get Midwest teams, national teams.” Nick Cusick is the president of Bison, Inc. and is chair of the LSF advisory committee and said he’s impressed with how far the complex has come in recent years, particularly compared to what it looked like decades ago. “To see what has happened just in the last handful of years, under Dan and the board’s leadership … it’s really quite something,”  Cusick added. More plans in the works to continue upgrading LSF spaces, according to Lesoing, including remodeling the main lobby and expanding restrooms, spectator accommodations and a mezzanine to better accommodate increased attendance and larger events.  Work is set to begin Dec. 1, with an expected completion date of sometime in mid-May 2027. ...read more read less
