Fremont neighbors complain over noise from events at nearby temple

Fremont neighbors raised concerns about noise from events at a nearby Hindu temple that they said bring large crowds into their neighborhood.
The neighbors, who asked to remain anonymous, told NBC Bay Area they’ve filed dozens of noise complaints with the city over the past year, and they are h
oping the temple will reconsider the size of future events.
They shared footage of what they describe as an ongoing problem, including noisy events during school hours.
They also showed NBC Bay Area records of more than 25 noise complaints made to city code enforcement over the past year.
In July, the city met with neighbors and temple representatives to discuss their concerns and try to find some common ground.
But just last week, another example of noise that left neighbors frustrated. The temple had obtained a special event permit for it, but neighbors say the noise continued past the 9 p.m. cutoff for amplified sound.
The city confirmed receiving complaints about last week’s event as well and says it’s looking into them, adding, “City staff will continue coordinating with the temple and adjacent neighbors, monitoring activities and adjusting future permitted activities as appropriate to work toward constructive solutions to the issues that have been reported.”
NBC Bay Area reached out to the temple’s president for comment but has not heard back.
Neighbors say they’re not opposed to the events but want them to be more considerate of the surrounding community.
