Philadelphia’s Indego bike share stations got a high-tech upgrade, and you don’t need to hop on a bike to take advantage of it. New interactive kiosks developed by IKE Smart City are already in place at Indego stations across Philadelphia, giving residents and visitors an easier way to naviga te the city, discover local attractions and stay connected to their communities. Each ADA-accessible kiosk feature are pair with “smart city technology’ and have dual-sided touchscreens with multilingual interactive apps, making information available to a wider range of users. The kiosks provide real-time transit information, local events, nearby dining options and public safety alerts. They also offer free public Wi-Fi and display public art, community messages and important safety information. Beyond helping people find their way around, the kiosks are designed to support the growth of Philadelphia’s Indego bike share network, with advertising revenue going directly back into the system. “The City is committed to strengthening our Indego bikeshare program, and the addition of new IKE Smart City touchscreen kiosks across our system does just that,” Indego Program Manager Waffiyyah Murray said in a news release. “These touchscreens will help residents and visitors navigate our city, access real-time weather updates, and receive key community messaging. Revenue from advertisements will be directly reinvested into the system, allowing us to improve Indego for everyone.” Launched in 2015, Indego has grown to include 2,000 classic and pedal-assisted electric bikes across 250 stations in Philadelphia. The bikes are available 24/7 for transportation, recreation, fitness or fun. ...read more read less
