Bank of America plans to open eight financial centers in Greater New Orleans beginning in the second half of 2027, an expansion expected to create approximately 60 jobs and significantly increase the company’s retail banking presence in the region. The Charlotte, North Carolina-based bank confirme d that two locations are already under construction: one at 4350 General De Gaulle Drive in New Orleans’ Algiers neighborhood and another at 830 N. Highway 190 in Covington. Additional locations will be announced as plans are finalized, according to Matthew Daily, a Bank of America media relations representative. The expansion is part of Bank of America’s broader strategy to increase its physical presence across the United States, with plans to open approximately 50 financial centers annually. The bank currently operates approximately 3,500 financial centers nationwide, with its network reaching markets representing about 83% of the U.S. population. Holly O’Neill, president of retail banking at Bank of America, said the company’s expansion strategy is designed to extend its reach into additional markets, with locations selected based on economic growth, population trends and opportunities to serve businesses and consumers. Building on existing New Orleans relationships Although the new financial centers will expand Bank of America’s retail banking operations in Greater New Orleans, the company already has an established presence in the region. The bank currently has four locations supporting clients in the New Orleans-Baton Rouge market and employs approximately 170 people locally. Bank of America said the expansion will build on its existing Merrill wealth management and business banking operations, bringing additional retail banking, lending and small business services to customers. The company also cited its existing commercial lending relationships as evidence of demand for expanded services. During the second quarter of 2026, Bank of America reported $65.4 million in loans to small businesses and $918 million in loans to commercial businesses in the market. The additional financial centers will provide more opportunities for customers to conduct banking transactions in person, seek financing and access financial guidance. The expansion is expected to create approximately 60 jobs across the eight planned locations. Part of multibillion-dollar investment Bank of America has invested more than $5 billion since 2016 to open new financial centers and modernize existing locations across its national network. The company did not disclose a specific investment amount for its Greater New Orleans expansion. The new locations are part of a broader effort to combine physical banking offices with digital services, giving customers multiple ways to manage their finances and access banking products. The bank’s local expansion also builds on its philanthropic and community involvement. Since 2020, Bank of America employees have contributed approximately 4,400 volunteer hours in the region, while the company has provided $2.6 million in philanthropic support to local organizations. The first Greater New Orleans financial centers are expected to open during the second half of 2027. Specific opening dates have not been announced. Bank of America has not identified the remaining six locations or provided a construction timeline for those facilities. ...read more read less
