Students at Lincoln Northeast High School cast their votes in the Student Vote on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026 inside the Northeast library. Student Vote is a mock election geared to educate kids in grades 4 through 12 about the election process. Student Vote has been around since 1992, as a partnership
with Lincoln Public Schools, KFOR and KFRX Radio. (Jeff Motz/KFOR News)LINCOLN–(KFOR Oct. 27)–Votes were being cast Tuesday across Lincoln Public Schools and some parochial schools in the city for the Student Vote, which has been coordinated by LPS, KFOR and sister station KFRX, every two years since 1992.
It’s a mock election that gives students in grades 4th through 12th an idea on what it’s like to go through the voting process, plus learning about the candidates and the issues. At Northeast High School, students in their social studies classes were casting their votes in the library.
Northeast sophomore Quincy Janssen was among several students helped coordinate with Student Vote and told KFOR News and other reporters why this exercise matters for potential future voters.
“If you have never learned how to vote before you can when you’re 18, how would you know what you’re doing, how would know the significance of it,” Janssen said. “So, it’s important to teach it before you vote.”

Northeast freshman Ava Wyman also volunteered to help with Student Vote, which she feels is very important to learn about the voting process.
“It also prepares us for what’s happening in the future and lets us know how this can affect our community,” Wyman said.
