Early voting continues to gain traction ahead of Election Day in New York
Oct 26, 2026
In a sign of the current electoral enthusiasm, election officials are reporting higher turnout in the first two days of early voting, both in New York City and on Long Island.
This weekend, more than 250,000 people went to the polls, including on Long Island, where election officials are reportin
g higher voter turnout than two years ago.
“It’s good to vote because there are some who can’t vote,” said Paula, a local voter. “So, I want to vote for them.”
Meanwhile, gubernatorial candidates are ramping up their campaigns and continuing to garner endorsements.
Republican candidate Bruce Blakeman reiterated his plan for a lifetime of work for the agricultural sector on Monday, taking into account the calls he is receiving from across the state regarding the need for farmworkers. This is an issue he has already discussed with President Donald Trump.
“Blakeman has already met several times with the president about the work permit plan,” said Melissa Figueroa, a spokeswoman for the Blakeman campaign. “He is very clear on that.”
Meanwhile, New York Governor Kathy Hochul pledged to continue supporting the immigrant community.
Hochul, who is seeking reelection, met on Monday with a Dominican women’s organization and, attempting to speak in Spanish, emphasized the importance of family among Hispanics.
“It’s very important,” Sara, a voter, told our sister station Telemundo 47. “It’s very important that Latinos who are eligible to vote go out and vote and make their voices heard.”
At the end of the third day of early voting in New York City, here is the voter turnout in each borough, according to the Board of Elections:
Manhattan: 63,195
Bronx: 23,685
Brooklyn: 64,556
Queens: 54,595
Staten Island: 18,863
The total number of early votes registered is 224,894, but these figures are not official as of the close of the polls.
