ICE agents spotted at San Jose jail, advocates say
Oct 25, 2026
Advocates with the Santa Clara County Rapid Response Network said ICE agents were present in the lobby of the Main Jail on Hedding Street in San Jose on Sunday.
Advocates responded to the jail in the morning. They said agents were just outside the building as well, apparently waiting for people t
o be released.
On Saturday, members of the same network were at the Elmwood Jail in Milpitas, watching ICE agents there for a third day in a row.
Activists want to make it very clear to the agents that their actions are being witnessed and documented.
Santa Clara County is a sanctuary county, but no sanctuary policy can prohibit agents from waiting in public areas of the jail.
The sheriff’s office says that it does not coordinate with ICE or notify the agency of release dates. They have been tracking ICE visits as well and say agents have been visiting the lobby for more than a year, and taken 60 people into custody who were set for release.
NBC Bay Area reached out to ICE for comment on Sunday’s activity but has not heard back.
