San Francisco Muni subway service restored after car enters tracks on Market Street
Oct 25, 2026
Market Street subway service between Van Ness and Embarcadero stations experienced major disruptions following an incident late Saturday when an automobile entered the tracks via The Embarcadero, transit officials said.
The weekend incident caused significant delays in both directions, prompting
the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency to suspend Muni Metro service between Church and Embarcadero stations for emergency trackway inspections and repairs.
To help mitigate the disruption, BART provided mutual aid between Embarcadero and Balboa Park stations in both directions, while bus shuttles were deployed to bridge service between Market/Castro and Caltrain.
Muni issued several temporary services to manage the downed network. Some eastbound KLM trains operated as far as Church Station or entered the subway at West Portal to service Castro Station before switching back to westbound service, while other KLM trains switched back from eastbound to westbound via Church Station J. Additionally, J and N trains switched back on the surface rather than entering the subway.
Following overnight repairs and inspections, transit officials have restored normal operations, though commuters are still advised to allow extra travel time for any residual delays.
