The three luxury homes atop this week’s Commission Accomplished have a combined age of 361 years, with each property pairing more than a century of history with extensive updates and modern amenities. 1630 Palmer Ave. – an Uptown mansion built in 1909 by renowned New Orleans architect Emile Weil – sold for $3.2 million, making the property the highest-priced sale in the Greater New Orleans area during the week of Oct. 11-17. The 117-year-old home was followed by 44 Audubon Blvd., a 106-year-old Uptown residence that sold for $2.855 million. Rounding out the top three was 926 St. Peter St., an 1888 French Quarter home that sold for $1,490,450. 1630 Palmer Ave. features five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and 6,360 square feet of living space on a 61-by-157-foot lot, located near St. Charles Ave. and Audubon Park. The listing agent on the Oct. 13 transaction was Eleanor Farnsworth of Latter Blum | Compass, while the sales agent was Warren Backer of McEnery Residential. The Palmer Avenue home was under contract within the first 10 days of hitting the market, Farnsworth said. “We had an open house that was full of people walking in all day long, and there was a lot of interest that followed,” Farnsworth said. “The craftsmanship throughout the home is just so beautiful — the double entry gates were inspired by the coat of arms above the home, and the ironwork was hand-forged by one of New Orleans’ last practicing blacksmiths. Everywhere you looked there was something historic and special.” Farnsworth said the home is particularly well suited for entertaining, with expansive rooms, a solarium, an elegant primary suite and dressing room, and an enclosed upstairs porch connected to the bedroom. Outside, the deep backyard features a swimming pool, fountain, and mature oak tree. The previous owners had lived there for more than 30 years and traveled extensively, while the wife, a decorator, brought that influence into the home through furnishings, chandeliers, and other hand-selected details. “The owners traveled extensively, and she was a decorator, so every room had exceptional chandeliers from around the world and special touches throughout,” Farnsworth said. “The chandeliers really took your breath away when you walked through the house. Everything was very thoughtfully done.” A landscaped, tree-lined approach leads through wrought-iron gates to the residence, where historic details include a hand-painted foyer ceiling, grand staircase, marble mantels, polished wood floors, ornate chandeliers, and restored architectural elements. The first floor features a formal living room anchored by a marble mantel, a dining room with a marble fireplace, a solarium with white marble floors and a mirrored wall, two powder rooms, and a gourmet kitchen with high-end appliances, wine cooler, and wet bar. Upstairs, the home includes two bedrooms, sitting and dressing rooms, a kitchen, laundry area, a library, and expansive bathrooms, including one finished in green marble. The property has undergone significant system updates, including rewiring, plumbing, ductwork, and HVAC improvements. Additional features include a whole-home generator, basement dehumidifier, copper gutters, a terra-cotta roof, elevator access to the basement, and gated off-street parking for four vehicles. 44 Audubon Blvd. features 6 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, and 7,157 square feet of living space on a 62-by-159-foot lot, located near Tulane University. Adrienne LaBauve of the LaBauve Group at eXp Realty represented both sides of the Oct. 16 transaction. The 1920 estate has been meticulously renovated from top to bottom, with the residence honoring historic character while introducing curated and contemporary finishes, updated systems, and flexible living spaces. A lower level adds a modern element to the century-old property, with a speakeasy and tasting room, built-in beer taps, lounge seating, recreation space, home cinema, fitness studio, infrared sauna, and spa-style bathroom. Additional amenities include an elevator, whole-home generator, and multicar garage with electric vehicle charging. Expansive formal living and dining areas feature natural light, fireplaces, and preserved architectural details, while the renovated kitchen includes custom cabinetry, marble countertops and backsplash, premium stainless steel appliances, a large center island, and abundant storage space. The main level is anchored by gathering spaces that transition to the outdoor living areas. The primary suite includes a marble-finished bathroom with a soaking tub, oversized glass shower, dual vanities, and spacious walk-in closet with custom built-ins. Additional bedrooms include access to en suite bathrooms, while separate ground-floor guest suites provide accommodations for visitors or extended family. Outside, a saltwater pool with tanning ledge is surrounded by tropical landscaping. A covered summer kitchen includes a built-in grill, pizza oven, bar seating, and dining space. 926 St. Peter St. is the oldest of this week’s top three sales as the 1888 Eastlake-style residence in the French Quarter features 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and 3,040 square feet of living space on a 39-by-128-foot lot. The listing agent on the Oct. 14 transaction was Rusty Harris of Engel Völkers New Orleans, while the sales agent was Margaret Stewart of Latter Blum | Compass. The property preserves many of the architectural details associated with its era, including a five-bay façade, decorative woodwork, custom iron railings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a side-hall gallery. Inside, the front parlor features 14-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and hardwood floors. The main residence includes three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a library, home office, and chef’s kitchen equipped with a 48-inch six-burner Wolf range, and Sub-Zero refrigerator. A side gallery leads to a rear courtyard with a heated saltwater pool and a detached guest house containing its own kitchen and bathroom. The raised side-hall cottage also features a front gallery supported by decorative wooden brackets and framed by a cast-iron balustrade. Both the main residence and guest house received new roofs in 2025.
