In one of San Francisco’s most exclusive neighborhoods, a house that neighbors claim is occupied by squatters will go up for auction soon. The four-bedroom house on 32nd Avenue in the Sea Cliff neighborhood seems to fit right in on the upscale street, but neighbors say squatters have been a per sistent problem. “It’s quiet right now in the middle of the day when they’re not here, but if you came between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., you’d be hearing dogs barking all night, car doors slamming,” resident Cameron Will said. “There were enormous thuds last night keeping neighbors up. That’s very common. I’d say that’s probably five out of seven days a week.” Will said the ongoing nuisance has resulted in neighbors resorting to documenting everyone who comes and goes. Will said they’ve counted up to three dozen people over the last two months. No one answered the door when an NBC Bay Area crew knocked Thursday. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors this week authorized the city to put the house on auction due to years of unpaid property taxes that now total about $340,000. The city attorney also has filed a lawsuit against Diana Peng, Brandon Aadee and several unnamed people, alleging Peng and Aadee are conspiring to illegally gain title of the house. The special auction will likely be set for December. According to online real estate estimates, it could be worth upwards of $4 million. But if someone produces a valid title and is able to pay the tax bill, the whole plan could be derailed, along with neighbors’ hopes of finding some peace on their street. ...read more read less
