NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Part of New Kent Highway shut down Wednesday morning after a cement truck overturned. The New Kent Sheriff's Office took to Facebook the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 21, to share that New Kent Highway, or Route 249, between Route 106 and Poindexter Road will be closed for several hours as crews work to clear the scene and reopen the roadway. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has established detours to redirect traffic around the affected area, authorities said. Drivers should expect delays and are urged to use alternative routes, as well as follow all posted detour signs.
