A small brush fire spread to one home in the Oakland Hills Tuesday before firefighters were able to stop its forward progress.
The Oakland Fire Department (OFD) said the blaze broke out at about 11:45 a.m. along the 1000 block of Panoramic Way, located above the UC Berkeley campus. Forward progre
ss was stopped by about 1:15 p.m.
Flames burned through vegetation on a hillside before spreading to the roof and siding of a home along Panoramic Way, according to the fire department.
More than 70 firefighters from multiple jurisdictions responded to the scene, ultimately stopping the fire at roughly an acre and a half.
“Crews did a fantastic job,” OFD Chief Damon Covington said. “This had potential to take off and be a large-scale event. The multi-jurisdiction response was seamless.”
No evacuation orders were issued, but residents on Panoramic Way were asked to temporarily shelter in place.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
