In a filing with the Securities Exchange Commission Monday, Vail Resorts accused Oasis Management, the Hong Kong-based investment group running a slate of four directors for seats on Vail Resort’s board, of working in apparent cooperation with Matthew Prince, the Park City-based billionaire who has been publicly campaigning to buy the namesake ski resort from the publicly traded company based near Denver. Vail Resorts stated in the filing that one of Oasis’s board nominees, Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street, is a friend of Prince’s and that the billionaire had introduced her to Oasis after she consulted with him about her nomination. In addition, VR said that a second nominee, Bryce Roberts, who like Street and Prince lives in Utah, had also been introduced to Oasis by Prince and had referred to the billionaire “as an old friend” on the social media site X in 2021. “Roberts and Street were introduced to Oasis by Matthew Prince, raising questions regarding potential conflicts of interest and whether Mr. Prince advanced those candidates because he believes they will best serve his objective of forcing the sale of the company’s interest in Park City Mountain to him,” Vail Resorts stated in its filing. “Mr. Roberts and Ms. Street were introduced to Oasis approximately one week before their nominations.” In an email to the Vail Daily, Prince responded to Vail Resorts’ accusation: “Nope. I suggested several candidates to Oasis. But it’s accurate Bryce and Picabo were two of them. Beyond suggesting people I thought would be well-qualified, I had no influence over who Oasis put forward,” Prince said. “And I haven’t talked to either Bryce or Picabo about my plans to acquire Park City except at the highest, most cursory level. I think Bryce is interesting to help lead a better Vail because of his deep familiarity with technology and innovation,” Prince added. “I think Picabo is interesting because of her fundamental love of skiing and understanding of its magic, something the current Vail management and board have forgotten or lost.” For full story, see vaildaily.com The post Vail Resorts claims conflict of interest as activist investor works with Prince, who wants to buy Park City Mountain appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
