HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — An elementary schooler was assaulted by a 47-year-old stranger at a bus stop along the child's bus route Friday morning, authorities said. Ratcliffe Elementary School alerted families of the incident at around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16. Principal Joy Reed said a s tranger had approached the students at the Blue Stone Drive and Cool Lane stop at around 7:30 a.m. the same day and assaulted one of the students. The bus arrived at around the same time, and police were called, the announcement reads. Henrico Police confirmed with 8News that officers were called to the 2000 block of Cool Lane Friday morning for a reported assault. They found a 9-year-old boy with "obvious injuries" to his face. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Police identified the suspect as 47-year-old Marie Tulette Marsh of Henrico. She was arrested and charged with assault, authorities said. Further information was not immediately available. Reed said that though the incident was believed to be isolated, she plans to visit the bus stop throughout this week to reassure students about their safety and monitor the student. "School counselors, teachers and administrators are working together to support students who ride this bus," Reed wrote in Friday's announcement.
