RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A water leak prompting emergency repairs has caused Richmond's John Marshall Courts Building to close on Monday. In a press release shared by the city at 11:35 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, officials said a water leak had caused the closure of the John Marshall Courts Building, l ocated at 400 N. Ninth St. The city said that all hearings and trials scheduled for Monday will be rescheduled. The Circuit Court Clerk's Office will reportedly not accept land recordings and e-recordings until the building reopens on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The leak comes roughly five months after Richmond’s chief circuit court judge Jacqueline McClenney ordered city officials to explain why the courthouse hadn’t been renovated, stating in a court order that the 48-year-old building is dangerous. Judge McClenney cited state code that the city has to provide a suitable space, and that the John Marshall Courts Building at 400 North Ninth Street as is doesn’t cut it. Further updates can be found on the city's website. ...read more read less
