Delivery orders could still be placed through Instacart, DoorDash, and Uber Eats, however.
Officials with the company said that GIANT stores, pharmacies, and fuel stations remain open during normal business hours.
But, on Monday, the company that owns GIANT, Ahold Delhaize, released a statement noting that it was “experiencing a security issue within its network.”
“Our teams are taking steps to assess and mitigate the issue. This resulted in us taking precautionary measures, including taking some systems offline to help protect them,” the company said in an updated statement on Tuesday.
The attack also took down online services for Stop Shop and Hannaford stores, as well.
However, the company did not say where the attack my have originated and it did not say if any group had taken responsibility for the attack.
The company also did not give any time frame for when the online services might be restored.
But, company officials said, they were “in the process of starting a controlled re-launch of certain systems” and experts were working to restore the affected systems.
Also, officials said, the company was working with law enforcement officials as an investigation into this attack was ongoing.
While the loss of the website and app impact customers, the hack was not as severe as a recent cyberattack in France where refrigeration systems were taken over and set to high temperatures, ruining food at hundreds of grocery stores.
